One of the things we love most at Perth Upmarket is discovering Perth’s best creative talent, such as Fremantle artist Courtney Jane ArtLife, joining us for the first time at our November market. We caught up with her to find out the story behind her unique art pieces.
Courtney has been painting for the past four years, which has provided a creative outlet for her in a very busy time that included having two baby boys, traveling the world, getting married and adopting a puppy! During this time she has been refining her painting style and taking inspiration from the environment around her. The result is beautiful pieces which both brighten and complement any interior – the type of paintings you can get lost in.
It has only been in the last few months that Courtney’s painting hobby has turned into a business. It was people asking her for custom pieces that led to her taking this step. Now she is quickly becoming known for her stunning abstract acrylic art pieces which she creates from her home studio.
She says she has found her passion in bringing other people’s visions to life on a canvas.
“It was scary at first sending my art into the wide world as it was part of my sacred space but I have already grown through the experience,” Courtney said.
“It has let me discover a whole other side to art, meet a lot of new people and broaden my horizons.”
She finds inspiration all around her in what she describes as “the wonder of nature”, particularly as seen through the eyes of her children. Being a mum of two young adventurous boys means that there is no shortage of time spent out and about being inspired by nature.
“From collecting shells at the beach to watching sunsets to camping in WA’s red dirt…I am inspired by the way my boys interact with the natural environment around them and I try to express this through my organic style of painting.”
She says one of the best things about turning her art into a small business is the flexibility it gives her to spend invaluable time with her boys, who in turn continue to inspire her everyday.
“I am excited to bring to Upmarket a collection of unique pieces that truly reflect me and who I am as a mother, daughter, sister and wife.”
Don’t miss Courtney’s stunning collection at our Christmas Upmarket on 26 November at the University of Western Australia. Check out some of her pieces below.
