Paddock to Produce – From the Paddock to your Plate

Do you know what is really on your plate – where it was grown, what processing has happened along the way, what has been added to it? For Jenine O’Brien it is important, where possible, to know exactly what is in the food that you are eating and feeding to your family.

A chef for over 20 years, Jenine started her business Paddock2Produce just last year, taking a big leap of faith to pursue something she was passionate about. It is all about real food that is additive free and followed through from seeds to final products – all quality gourmet essentials. Think pickles, jams, chutneys, salts – even cordials*! How great does real cordial sound?

“My products reflect the lifestyle I have always lived – I am a big believer in knowing where your food comes from, eating fresh, seasonal produce and living an organic lifestyle,” Jenine said.

“Eating ‘real’ food is something so important to me, even more so since becoming a mum nine years ago. It is reassuring to me to know that I am giving my son the best, additive free foods.

“I know that it can be a maze, particularly for busy families, to know what to choose in the supermarket especially with all the marketing around us. It is great to be able to offer something that is fresh, hand picked, hand processed and additive free.”

Everything from Paddock2Produce starts by being grown at Glenarty Rd Winery, a winery and sheep farm property located in Karridale. Jenine also sources some additional produce from local farmers within the region. From here, she manages every stage of the production hands-on.

Jenine said that the biggest challenge in bringing her business to life has been managing the nuts and bolts of it, such as stock rotation and marketing. She already has great confidence in the kitchen and food production so this part has been a breeze.

Her top picks from her range?

“I personally love the Spicy Tomato Kasundi and the Chilli Lime Salt – both can bring life and flavour to a whole range of foods,” she said.

We are excited to welcome Paddock2Produce to our Christmas Upmarket – make sure you check out their range on 26 November 2017 at The University of Western Australia. Until then, here is a sneak peek to get your mouth watering…
