In this blog we catch up with local artists Sarah Malone and Kristy Watkins.
Sarah Malone
Sarah where do you find inspiration for your art?
I am inspired by the landscape particularly the relationship between water and earth.
I use a drone to fly above areas of interest to capture aerial views, providing a new perspective and dimension to my practice. I am fortunate that the Western Australian landscape is so beautiful which undoubtedly provides an endless source of inspiration for my work.
What materials do you like to work with and why?
I enjoy working with inks and acrylics on a range of surfaces. I work in a very fluid style as I like to manipulate mediums to produce interesting interactions creating delicate layer and textures.
What can Art Upmarket visitors expect from you?
I will be attending Art Upmarket with original abstract artworks in a variety of sizes. You can expect to find works on canvas, paper and aluminium surfaces, all ready to hang in their forever homes!
Kristy Watkins
Kristy where do you find inspiration for your art?
Our stunning West Australian coastline with it’s turquoise waters and ever changing light provide me with constant inspiration. I’ve been fortunate enough to Artist in Residence on Rottnest Island so much of my work is of the Island, both on, and in the water.
We have some of the most dramatic and inspiring landscapes from the Kimberley to the Great Southern which as a photo realism painter give me a huge amount of inspiration.
What materials do you like to work with and why?
Typically I work with Acrylics paints as they lend themselves to big canvases and artists who like to work non-stop on a painting until its finished.
Sometimes my paintings are topping off oils as they add great colour and luminosity.
What can Art Upmarket visitors expect from you?
At Art Upmarket you will find a range of new Rottnest and local beach paintings, with a few larger pieces but mostly smaller, framed works ready to hang along with a number of canvas prints of a few of my more recent works.
