Hana Fry Art: “Be Brave and Follow Your Dreams”

Hana Fry completed a degree in Fine Arts at UWA in 2009, however it wasn’t until recently that in her words she “had the courage to show my art publicly”. The inspiration and motivation behind this bravery were her two boys – Hana was, and still is, determined to demonstrate to them that you can “be brave and follow your dreams”.

After deciding to take the plunge and begin to sell her artwork, Hana was overwhelmed by the positive responses that she received. Fast forward to today, and Hana is regularly commissioned to create artworks for both residential homes and commercial spaces.

The Inspiration Behind the Paint

Hana is an expressionist abstract painter. She paints naturally and intuitively, usually without a plan, and allowing herself to freely enjoy the process of creating in that moment. Hana’s inspiration often comes from juxtapositions in life. She describes her life as a “life of two halves” highlighting the juxtaposition in the cultures of her parents and the countries in which she has lived. Hana’s childhood saw her moving across multiple countries including the US, Venezuela and the UK, before moving to Perth at 18 years of age.

The juxtaposition of “mum life” with her corporate work also inspires Hana’s art. She currently works 3 days a week in an office environment, while fitting her art into her two days off as well as the evenings when her boys are in bed. Hana describes her life as “hectic”, but she loves it!

“I am so grateful that things are getting busy enough for me to be this busy!”

Hana’s Signature Style

“My art is inspired by colour, movement, the childlike joy of my children and the linear controlled lines of set plans and preparation behind the scenes that allow such freedoms to thrive”.

Hana’s visual language of soft expressionist backgrounds and abstract representations are countered by rigid blocklines and shapes. Her style is instantly recognisable to art lovers worldwide! Her bold abstract works with their soft undertones and competing structured shapes grace the walls of many collectors, bringing joy and a sense of space to her client’s homes and commercial properties.

Where To Next?

Hana’s goal is to make a full-time career from her art. She’d like to continue to offer a range of originals, commissions, and prints internationally. A fun side project that Hana is looking into is working with a clothing brand to design art for their fabrics.

“My goal at the moment is just to say YES to every opportunity that presents itself”.

Hana also plans to devote more time to marketing her business. As she states, “selling” herself does not come naturally to her in the way that art does. She is determined to focus the next few months on dedicating as much time to marketing her business as she does to creating the artworks.
